New Bane Chronicles snippet features Elyaas the demon

Cassie Clare took to Tumblr to share a brand new snippet from The Bane Chronicles: What to Buy the Shadowhunter Who has Everything, which features a fun interaction with the blue tentacled demon Elyaas, who made an appearance in The Infernal Devices. Read ahead...

Bane Chronicles snippet
“How have you been keeping? You know, since the last time you summoned me,” said Elyaas, the demon.“What?” Magnus asked.“You don’t remember me?” said the tentacle demon.“I summon a lot of demons,” Magnus said weakly. There was a long pause. Magnus stared into the bottom of his coffee cup and desperately willed more coffee to appear. This was something a lot of mundanes did too, but Magnus had one up on those suckers. His mug did slowly fill again, until it was brimming with rich dark liquid. He sipped and looked at Elyaas, who was shifting uncomfortably from tentacle to tentacle.“Well,” said Elyaas. “This is awkward.”“It’s nothing personal,” said Magnus.“Maybe if I jogged your memory,” Elyaas suggested helpfully. “You summoned me when you were searching for a demon who cursed a Shadowhunter? Bill Herondale?”“Will Herondale,” said Magnus.Elyaas snapped his tentacles as if they were fingers. “I knew it was something like that.”“You know,” Magnus said, enlightened, “I think I do remember. I’m sorry about that. I realized right away that you weren’t the demon I was looking for. You looked kind of blue in one of the drawings, but obviously you are not blue, and I was wasting your time. You were pretty understanding about it.”“Think nothing of it.” Elyaas waved a tentacle. “These things happen. And I can look blue. You know, in the right light.”“Lighting’s important, it’s true,” said Magnus.“So whatever happened with Bill Herondale and that curse a blue demon put on him?” The cecaelia demon’s interest seemed genuine.“Will Herondale,” Magnus said again. “It’s actually rather a long story.”“You know, sometimes we demons pretend we’re cursing people and we don’t really do it,” said Elyaas chattily. “Like, just for kicks? It’s kind of a thing with us. Did you know that?”“You could have mentioned it a century or two ago,” Magnus observed frostily.Elyaas shook his head, smiling a slime-bedecked smile. “The old pretend-to-curse. It’s a classic. Very funny.” He appeared to notice Magnus’s unimpressed expression for the first time. “Not from your perspective, of course.”“It wasn’t funny for Bill Herondale!” said Magnus. “Oh, damn it. Now you’ve got me doing it.”— from What to Buy the Shadowhunter Who Has Everything*We just got news on an awesome audio narrator for this one - I think you guys will be pleased!

George Blagden, narrator of The Bane Chronicles: The Runaway Queen

George Blagden,
narrator of The Bane Chronicles: The Runaway Queen

Sarah Rees Brennan shared her thoughts on Tumblr about the new narrator for the upcoming second instalment in The Bane Chronicles: The Runaway Queen, George Blagden.

She said, "So, George Blagden is going to be narrating Maureen and Cassie’s wonderful The Runaway Queen!

Just before I left Ireland, I’d seen Les Miserables, in which he played Grantaire, the cynical drunk member of the revolution. He was a favourite of mine from the book (I’m a nerd ;)) and I said unto myself ‘Hey, dude who plays him is great.’

Look, I’m from Ireland, it’s cultural: we love drunks."

Cassie Clare shares a CP2 cut scene

Today Shadowhunters got a Sunday afternoon treat when Cassie Clare shared a cut scene from Clockwork Princess.

Here's what Cassie had to say about it

"People often ask about cut scenes from books, and they can be hard to come by, because a lot of the time we don’t have scenes that we’ve cut out, the way one might in a movie, but rather ones we’ve rewritten.

I decided to post a rewritten scene from CP2 under the spoiler tag. It is the scene that begins around page 468, with Will in Henry’s room. If you put the scenes side by side you can see the differences — the timing of when Charlotte learns a certain piece of information, where Will is when a certain thing happens, the players who are present, and Jem and Will’s attitude toward each other."

ICYMI: TBC: What Happened In Peru reaches No.4

The Bane Chronicles: What Really Happened in Peru debuted in the number four spot on The New York Times Best Sellers list. Cassie Clare took a moment on Tumblr to thank all her fans for their support.

A message from Cassie:

Thank you guys! I’m so excited. I didn’t know how a project just about Magnus, especially one that was co-authored and e-book only, would go, so I am so grateful to you for trusting me, Sarah and Maureen and coming along with us for Magnus’ story!
Mortal Instruments is #2 on the bestseller list and ID is #7 — I don’t even know what to think. Mostly I just feel extremely humbled and grateful! Thank you!!

Cassie offers possible extra Vday present

Tonight after the Sony released graphic of Magnus Bane, Cassie took to her tumblr page to comment on the picture.

At the end of her post she asked if we thought we deserve an extra present. What do you all think? What do you think the present could be? A snippet maybe?

Here's what Cassie said:

Well, hello there, MAGNUS.
Magnus, being all high warlock of Brooklyn and stuff.
Things I noticed : Well, I’ve never seen this set before, so I’m not going to assume I know where Magnus is right here, specifically. Things I do notice: warlock cat’s eyes! Badass jewelry! Nail polish and guyliner! Important life lessons to take away from this film: just because a dude is wearing nail polish doesn’t mean he can’t beat the crap out of you. The necklace is a bird’s skull dipped in silver, which is just a neat little touch.
I think the drink in his hand is from the party scene: the drinks were all different colors, so we weren’t allowed to drink them because I think they were like, antifreeze. I spilled some on a ghoul and he was sticky all night. (You can see a bright red drink behind Magnus, with the candles.)
Thanks to Sony and http://instagram.com/mortalmovie for being so awesome and I look forward to what Valentine’s Day brings. Have you been good Shadowhunters? Do you think you deserve an extra present? :D

Share your comments below and make sure you show Cassie how much you'd love an extra little something!!

New Clockwork Princess snippet

Cassie Clare promised us a new Clockwork Princess snippet with illustration thanks to all the shadowhunter votes that got us to the fourth round in the MTV movie brawl. Here's the snippet, enjoy:

Rage flared up in Tessa and she considered belting Woolsey with the poker whether he came near her or not. He had moved awfully quickly while fighting Will, though, and she didn’t fancy her chances. “You don’t know James Carstairs. Don’t speak about him.”

“Love him, do you?” Woolsey managed to make it sound unpleasant. “But you love Will, too.”

Tessa froze. She had known that Magnus knew of Will’s affection for her, but the idea that what she felt for him in return was written across her face was too terrifying to contemplate.

Cassie Clare shares the details on evening with the Shadowhunters of TMI

We've been dying to know exactly what went on during her trip to Toronto on August 16th. Well, now she has. Take a look at what she posted to Tumblr.

“Can you tell us about meeting the cast?
Um, sure!
I went up to Toronto on my way to Europe (long story) right before they started filming to look at sets and see props and say hi to people. The movie people I know best are not the cast, but the producers, like Robert from Constantin, and Eric from Sony, and Jessica, the screenwriter. (Who you can follow at https://twitter.com/JessPostigo — she often tweets in Spanish which is good for my Spanish-speaking readers.)
I saw sets and props and Jocelyn’s paintings and other cool things I am not allowed to talk about because I got one of those letters that you have to sign that says you won’t talk about anything you see or they will bury you in a parking lot in Burbank.
The actors were doing fight training most of the day anyway. Kevin came by to show us they’d dyed his hair black and Jemima came by to show the runes they’d painted on her. The Voyance rune was partway up her wrist so I grabbed her hand and explained how the Voyance rune goes on the back of your dominant hand, whichever one you use to hold weapons. Jemima was patient and did not hit me for manhandling her.
I mostly got to talk to the cast at dinner because the producers were being magnanimous and said, “Cassie, sit with your Shadowhunters.” It was basically all Shadowhunters because it was those members of the cast that needed to be there for fight training (minus Valentine but either Jonathan Rhys Meyers comes with built in fight training or he’s doing it later. :)
The cast seemed a bunch of sweet kind funny people who had obviously developed a good rapport. Lily showed me the terrifying bruises she is covered with from her fight training. They told me Jamie can do a somersault in midair and stick the landing (so I suppose there’s always the Olympics in his future.) We discussed Lily’s hair color (I like it. I never thought of Clary as having orange-red hair, but more dark red and fiery.)
I had my phone out so Robert asked me if I had tweeted about dinner. I was still terrified of the Burbank parking lot so I held my hands up and said “Not a word.” He got an evil smile and said, “Why don’t you?” so I tweeted that I was having dinner with Jemima, Kevin, Aidan, Lily, and Jamie.
I flipped my phone over, waited five minutes, flipped it back over and was like, “Well… 400 or so mentions, all about you guys.” Then they all started leaning over the table because everyone was curious. I read as many of your guys’ tweets aloud as I could except NOT THE PORNOGRAPHIC ONES because yikes.
Me: Um, Kevin, someone wants to know if you are as happy looking in the mirror every morning as they are looking at your face.
Aidan: Tell them for me that he is.
Me: Lily, someone really loves you, and also your hair, and also Jamie.
Jamie: I am after hair?
Me: Someone would like you to know you are a very good-looking cast.
Aidan: It’s true, everyone is very good-looking. I mean, not me. Everyone else!
Me: Someone wants to know what your Shadowhunter gear looks like.
Kevin: My pants are very tight. I put on tight pants today, went into the fight training room, six guys punched me, and then I threw up.
Me: I am…sorry about that. Also everyone wants to know where Robbie and Godfrey are.
Kevin then asked the “Yeah, where’s my boyfriend?” question and Lily and Jamie opined that Robbie was great and had done an amazing audition, and one of them opined that he wasn’t bad-looking either but I will not say which one.
Jemima was also very pleased she had gotten Izzy’s whip to crack on the first try. She is super sweet and speaks perfect French (as I think does Kevin, or he does an amazing job of pretending) so if you’re wondering if someone tweeting is really Jemima you can always test her French. :)
I’ll be back on set in September and I am looking forward to seeing my Shadowhunters again as well as Simon and Magnus. It is a lovely weird experience having dinner with what feels like your own characters. Not many people get to have it so I feel very lucky and I am glad I brought my phone because it was like bringing a piece of you all with me. :)
