Lily Collins shares her Top 5 songs of 2013

Nothing says girl power like The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones star Lily Collins. 2013 has been quite a spectacular year for our Clary Fray.

Just like the many fans she has inspired this year, Collins has her own playlist that has kept her jamming. She spoke with MTV  about it. From Ellie Goulding to Lorde, 2013 was all about girl power.

"I've been a huge Ellie fan for a while," Collins said. "Her voice is so distinctive and has this amazing mixture of being soothing and relaxing and yet energetic and strong."

Just like us, Collins fell in love with Lorde. "Lorde's voice translates as such an old soul and her lyrics are so true and honest. This beat mixed with her voice is golden."

Go to MTV to see the entire playlist.

Cassandra Clare Talks 'City of Ashes' Film

Cassandra Clare spoke with MTV News about the upcoming Mortal Instruments sequel saying that she's ready for it. City of Bones fans have been patiently waiting for more news on the second installment which is set to film sometime in 2014 and we finally have some! Cassandra Clare dishes that the next movie "ratchets up the stakes". An obvious play on words for what's to come.

**WARNING *SPOILERS* READ NO FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T READ CITY OF ASHES!**

"Simon (Robert Sheehan) is turned into a vampire," Clare teases, "And he goes from being this human who's Clary's friend to this ravenous undead thing." Cassandra says that casting Robert Sheehan for the role was always the plan, "Robbie was actually my idea," she says. "I saw him in 'Misfits,' which is a big comedy hit in Britain, and he's just so good and yet also able to be heartbreaking and I thought he'll be great and he will enjoy the hell out of being a vampire."

MTV asked what fans can expect from City of Ashes, and although the 'Mortal Instruments' author couldn't say a lot, she told them Sigourney Weaver joining the series as the Inquisitor is what fans will enjoy. That the character is, "This badass, scary lady". Clare also talks about the scene she can't wait to see play out onscreen which is a huge battle that takes place on the deck of a warship. If you've read the books you know the one!

She also shares her thoughts concerning the first film and her reaction upon seeing her series come to life. She describes it as a "bizarre" experience adding, "Even though in the movie they're very different from the way they are in the books, there were moments where I sort of jumped because a certain prop or a certain thing was as I imagined it in my head."

Though City of Ashes hasn't begun filming yet this interview gives us reassurance that everything's on schedule to move forward soon. Since Cassie talks about Simon's character, which moment from the novel with him in it are you dying to see happen in the COA film? Comment below or tweet us @TMI_Institute!

Video: MTV's Exclusive Interview with Jamie Campbell Bower!

MTV teases us with another exclusive set interview with The Mortal Instruments cast. The interview introduces one of the amazing characters from the book series, Jace Wayland who is played by Jamie Campbell Bower. The interview also features Lily Collins who stars as Clary Fray and Cassandra Clare, the author of the fantastic series.

Even Jamie thinks Jace can be a little of a "d*****bag" from time to time.

You can also watch the video on MTV.com and read their set report:
When MTV News visited the set of the urban fantasy (based on the best-selling novel by Cassandra Clare), the actor was quick to affirm that while his character is something of a jerk, it's a role he's relishing.
"What I love about him is the fact that he's actually a bit of a douchebag," Bower said during a 3 a.m. interview on the Toronto set. "He's not like a meathead, he's just sarcastic and rude."
And for good reason, as fans of the series can attest. Jace has a complicated background (one we'll leave vague to avoid spoilers), but suffice it to say, this history has gone a long way towards making him the oft-prickly character he is today. Bower commended director Harald Zwart for capturing not only Jace's moodiness, but that of the monster-ridden world in which he and his fellow Shadowhunters exist.
"I think there is a darkness that Harald has brought to the piece that is easily lost in adaptations, particularly of YA novels," Bower said. "And there's a reality to it, as well, which is nice. You know, it's very easy to go into fantasyland too quickly — he says wearing a dress, effectively. Every girl's got to have a little black dress — that's how I look at it."
Of course, it takes a lot more than black garb and strategically placed runes to embody the Nephilim."There's a lot of physicality to the role, as well," Bower continued. "Which has been difficult to prepare for, absolutely, but it's paid off, which is great. Like, not eating cookies is so hard."
And if you have any lingering doubts as to how effectively Bower embodies the mercurial teen, well, author Cassandra Clare is happy to attest.
"Personality-wise, Jamie is exactly like Jace," Clare said. "It's actually like interacting with Jace, talking to him. It's a little bit creepy."
Creepy in a good way, we're sure.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones comes out in theaters this August 21.

Godfrey Gao talks Magnus Bane with MTV

This evening TMI fans clutched their chests and threw confetti in the air when Sony released the first image of the magnificent High Warlock of Brooklyn, Magnus Bane, played by Godfrey Gao. In fact fans were so ecstatic that according to TMI Source #MagnusBane began World Wide Trending (good job shadowhunters!)

Though Gao is new to the western world's film industry he has found much success in Taiwan as an actor and model. Recently he sat down with MTV and discussed his upcoming role as Magnus Bane. Here's what he said:

"I love Magnus Bane's character because [he] can live forever and never age a day, and who doesn't want to live forever?"

"I also love that Magnus is a flamboyant party animal, and it's fun to be described that way compared to the other characters I've portrayed previously. Magnus is so out there, he's definitely a character I will never forget!"

When asked about the transformation process into the High Warlock, Gao said:

"Magnus' extravagant style of dress and makeup was quite the hot topic when I arrived to shoot in Toronto. All the glitter, nail polish, eye-liner and the outfits combined made Magnus the character that everyone loves and envisioned in their minds. While I never spent more than 30 minutes for hair and makeup, the results for Magnus' style ... let's just say the hair, makeup and costume team/departments did a fantastic job of styling my character, and I enjoyed every single moment of transforming into Magnus! The warlock outfit with the black cape and hoody was very intriguing as well!"
