The new The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones trailer is soon to be released and in it wake Cassie Clare has shared a few stills from the new highly anticipated trailer on her Tumblr.
City of Bones Theatrical Trailer — a sneak peek
We interrupt your Clockwork Princess feels …to remind you there is a Mortal Instruments movie coming out in six months!
I’ve gotten a chance to see the extended theatrical trailer premiering at Wondercon this Saturday, and while I wish I could sneak you a peek of the whole thing … Sony has super-kindly given their permission for me to share five screen-grabs with you.

The High Warlock of Brooklyn. Hello, Magnus!
I loved the extended trailer — there’s some lovely funny bits and some great Simon and Alec stuff — and I hope you’ll love it too!
The theatrical trailer for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones will be released online on April 1st.
How excited are you to see these first screencaps? Which one is your favorite? Tell us in the comments below.
I have slew of different theories, but this one just came to me while sending an email to Katie at @MundieMoms on my latest moment of literary enlightenment while rereading Clockwork Prince.
Be prepared and indulge me while I slip into my TID madness...
Cassandra Clare keeps subtly bringing up the topic of reincarnation in the books. Most people may just read it and not really give it a second thought. As an aspiring author myself, I'm learning that there is very, very little that is written in a story that does not serve a purpose. If a concept is mentioned more than once, be prepared for it to be used in a big way.
At first I was sure it was going to be Jem that got reincarnated because of his illness. While that may be (and we can all dream of a Jem appearance in Dark Artifices), the discussion between Will and Magnus in "Reparations" chapter has my mind racing. I keep thinking what if it's Will who is reincarnated? Everyone would be devastated with his death, right? BUT...what could Cassie do to make the fandom happy? How could she fix such a tragedy?
First, let's take a look at reincarnation. Here's a wiki definition that explains it rather well:
"Samsara is a Buddhist term that literally means "circle" or "wheel" and is commonly translated as "conditioned existence", "cyclic existence", "cycle of existence", etc. Within Buddhism, samsara is defined as the continual repetitive cycle of birth and death that arises from ordinary beings' grasping and fixating on a self and experiences. Specifically, samsara refers to the process of cycling through one rebirth after another within the six realms of existence, where each realm can be understood as physical realm or a psychological state characterized by a particular type of suffering. Samsara arises out of avidya (ignorance) and is characterized by dukkha (suffering, anxiety, dissatisfaction). In the Buddhist view, liberation from samsara is possible by following the Buddhist path."
In the Clockwork Prince chapter "Reparations", Will and Magnus talk about reincarnation:
Magnus: You are a Shadowhunter, you are not afraid of death.
Will: Of course I am. Everyone is afraid of death. We may be born of angels, but we have no more knowledge of what comes after death than you do.
Magnus: You don't know that there is only oblivion after death.
Will: You don't know that there isn't, do you? Jem believes we are all reborn, that life is a wheel. We die, we turn, we are reborn as we deserve to be reborn, based on our doings in this world. I will probably be reborn as a slub that someone salts.
Magnus: The Wheel of Transmigration. Well, think of it this way. You must have done something right in your last life, to reborn as you were, Nephilim.
Magnus totally crushes on Will from day 1. I got all mushy in that moment. He totally loves Will, but alas, Will has eyes only for Tessa Gray. It wouldn't be so bad if that moment might happen. Could you wrap your mind around the thought of Will and Magnus having more than just a moment?
Let's take a look at a moment from Clockwork Princess to see Will and Jem discuss this exact same issue:
Will rose slowly to his feet. He could not believe he was doing what he was doing, but it was clear that he was, clear as the silver rim around the black of Jem’s eyes. “If there is a life after this one,” he said, “let me meet you in it, James Carstairs.” “There will be other lives.” Jem held his hand out, and for a moment, they clasped hands, as they had done during their parabatai ritual, reaching across twin rings of fire to interlace their fingers with each other. “The world is a wheel,” he said. “When we rise or fall, we do it together.” Will tightened his grip on Jem’s hand, which felt thin as twigs in his. “Well, then,” he said, through a tight throat, “since you say there will be another life for me, let us both pray I do not make as colossal a mess of it as I have this one."
Another life for me...that's what Will said. Now, I could debate the fact that he said "me" versus saying "us", but I won't go there in this post.
Just thought I would add this picture of the Wheel of Transmigration for a visual. Isn't it lovely in a creeptastic way?
I asked what Cassie could do to appease the fandom with the death of Will? My answer is Alec Lightwood. I think Alec is Will reincarnated.
Before you throw up your hands in the air or quickly click off this post, think about it for just a few more moments. It makes more and more sense to me. It would be a punishment fitting, almost a delightful sense of irony, for Will to be a Lightwood - the one family he seems to detest. You have to struggle to reach enlightenment, so what better way for Will to become a better person than to walk a mile (or a lifetime) in his enemy's shoes.
Magnus recognizes Will in Alec so many times. How could I not have thought of this before?! Alec, in turn, is so freaked by the thought of Magnus having this eternal experience that it would be a great reveal to know that in this Wheel of Transmigration, this act of samsara, Alec actually was with Magnus before as Will. Those same blue eyes...that same dark hair. To me, this would be the only cure to mend our broken hearts if Will dies.
I then am reminded of a snippet from City of Lost Souls when Magnus and Isabelle are arguing, and I'm struggling with what it all could be leading to:
“I know about parabatai,” said Magnus, his voice rising in pitch. “I’ve known parabatai so close they were almost the same person; do you know what happens, when one of them dies, to the one that’s left—”
It's crazy...right???? I've been debating Tale of Two Cities, just knowing more and more that Will is going to bite the big one, but maybe, just maybe, that might make it all better...if Will became Alec and we finally get the Will/Magnus ship we've secretly all craved in the form of Malec.
Here's my song for my Will and Magnus ship just in case anyone wants to listen to it!!! :)

Here is a new Shadowhunter Tarot card from Cassandra Jean. The card features Magnus and Alec kissing!
Thought some people might have been waiting for this one. :) Magnus and Alec take the Fearless rune in the Suit of Runes in the Shadowhunter Tarot. After all, it was first tested out on Alec!
We were definitely waiting for this card! How doyou guys like it? Let us know in the comments down below.
Harald Zwart, director extraordinaire, of the highly anticipated The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones movie, out August 23 2013, shared a little snippet of his day with us. He sat down for breakfast with the amazing Godfrey Gao and they discussed the TMI movie, who else is super jealous?
This Valentine's Day is sure turning out to be a good one! First TMI fans were shocked to receive not just a clue, but an entire still of Valentine. Now we've got a HD still from Magnus' party thanks to @ShadowhuntersUK
Tonight after the Sony released graphic of Magnus Bane, Cassie took to her tumblr page to comment on the picture.
At the end of her post she asked if we thought we deserve an extra present. What do you all think? What do you think the present could be? A snippet maybe?
Magnus, being all high warlock of Brooklyn and stuff.
Things I noticed : Well, I’ve never seen this set before, so I’m not going to assume I know where Magnus is right here, specifically. Things I do notice: warlock cat’s eyes! Badass jewelry! Nail polish and guyliner! Important life lessons to take away from this film: just because a dude is wearing nail polish doesn’t mean he can’t beat the crap out of you. The necklace is a bird’s skull dipped in silver, which is just a neat little touch.
I think the drink in his hand is from the party scene: the drinks were all different colors, so we weren’t allowed to drink them because I think they were like, antifreeze. I spilled some on a ghoul and he was sticky all night. (You can see a bright red drink behind Magnus, with the candles.)
Thanks to Sony and http://instagram.com/mortalmovie for being so awesome and I look forward to what Valentine’s Day brings. Have you been good Shadowhunters? Do you think you deserve an extra present? :D
Share your comments below and make sure you show Cassie how much you'd love an extra little something!!
This evening TMI fans clutched their chests and threw confetti in the air when Sony released the first image of the magnificent High Warlock of Brooklyn, Magnus Bane, played by Godfrey Gao. In fact fans were so ecstatic that according to TMI Source #MagnusBane began World Wide Trending (good job shadowhunters!)
Though Gao is new to the western world's film industry he has found much success in Taiwan as an actor and model. Recently he sat down with MTV and discussed his upcoming role as Magnus Bane. Here's what he said:
"I love Magnus Bane's character because [he] can live forever and never age a day, and who doesn't want to live forever?"
"I also love that Magnus is a flamboyant party animal, and it's fun to be described that way compared to the other characters I've portrayed previously. Magnus is so out there, he's definitely a character I will never forget!"
When asked about the transformation process into the High Warlock, Gao said:
"Magnus' extravagant style of dress and makeup was quite the hot topic when I arrived to shoot in Toronto. All the glitter, nail polish, eye-liner and the outfits combined made Magnus the character that everyone loves and envisioned in their minds. While I never spent more than 30 minutes for hair and makeup, the results for Magnus' style ... let's just say the hair, makeup and costume team/departments did a fantastic job of styling my character, and I enjoyed every single moment of transforming into Magnus! The warlock outfit with the black cape and hoody was very intriguing as well!"
The time has arrived, my dear sweet, wonderful, most patient Shadowhunters! We will get our very first look at the magnificent high warlock of Brooklyn, Magnus Bane!!!! Sony Pictures has just published the very first photo of Magnus Bane in their #ShareMortalLove celebration via @MortalMovie on Twitter.

CLUE ONE: I can tell you have a lot on your mind. I won't keep you waiting. Can you guess who I am?
CLUE TWO: If you want to know more, just look into my eyes.

Cassandra Clare posted a new placeholder cover for the upcoming story from the Bane Chronicles titledNo "Immortal Can Keep a Secret". This story was co-authored by Maureen Johnson! Cassie described this next tale as "a fun one, too, about Magnus’ secrets."
The placeholder cover with the hand is only a temporary cover. The final cover for this story will be revealed later.
The Bane Chronicles will be available in ebook form Amazon, Barnes and Noble.com, itunes, wherever you usually buy ebooks. And when it is finished, it will be available in print in bookstores. The first story, "What Really Happened in Peru" will be available April 16.
There's a new Shadowhunter Tarot card available via Cassandra Jean's tumblr. This is one of a set of 22 cards that are available.
In this tarot is Magnus and Alec with Jace and Clary taking the place of the Lovers Card to just say Love. You can go here to view the rest of the cards that are available so far!
Remember when we got the teaser trailer? Remember how amazing it is/was? Remember when we noticed Magnus Bane wasn't in it? Well prepare yourself because we may have a trailer with Magnus Bane sooner than we think.
Check out What Executive Producer Martin Moszkowicz said when a fan asked him about it:
Are you excited to finally see Godfrey Gao as Magnus Bane in the trailer?
During Shadowhunter Saturday, I was very excited that one of the co-authors for the Bane Chronicles, Sarah Rees Brennan, made a surprise visit to answer some fan questions about the upcoming series.
We were all THRILLED when Sarah took to Cassie Clare's Tumblr to share the news about the upcoming set of short stories about the High Warlock of Brooklyn. With Sarah's own set of books, including the Demon Lexicon trilogy and her newest book Unspoken,we know Sarah has a very busy schedule of her own. The fact that she's teamed up with colleagues Cassie and Maureen Johnson to bring us the Bane Chronicles is stellar.
Starting in February and leading up to a final book in 2014, there is a lot of history to be detailed about Magnus. Here's what Sarah shared with us on Twitter today.
Okay, here's where my computer started acting funny, and my screen caps are working right so here's the other tweets! It's in backwards order, so this next one is my ABSOLUTE FAVE! I asked if we could see Will, Jem and Tessa in the book:
Remember when Cassie, Sarah and Maureen had a big announcement for us? We thought we were going to have it last week, but we had to wait another whole week. Well here it is guys! THE BANE CHRONICLES!! Yes you read correctly, THE BANE CHRONICLES! As we all know, The High Warlock, Magnus Bane, is in both The Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instruments. Cassandra Clare is teaming up with Sarah Rees Brennan and Maureen Johnson to bring it to us.
"We bring to you THE BANE CHRONICLES, chronicling (you see what we did there) Magnus’s adventures through the ages. Have you ever wondered about Magnus’s past loves and lies? Magnus and Alec’s first date? How Magnus and Camille got together? What happened in Peru? Starting in February 2013, in the run-up to City of Handsome Magnus: the Movie (Also Starring Some Other People Who Are Pretty Good-Looking) we will put out a Magnus Short Story every month. There will be ten of Magnus’s magnificent adventures all in all. Some of them Cassie and I are writing, some of them Cassie and Maureen are writing, some Cassie is writing herself as we cruelly abandon her! All of them, we think, are lots of fun."
Starting in February, one story will be released every month in e-book format up until the release of THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES on August 23, 2013. In 2014, the stories will go to print in a single book.
VH1 has come up with a list of 25 of the top Supernatural characters. Three of Cassandra Clare's from The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices have made the list. Jace Wayland, Will Herondale and Magnus Bane all made their list.
Magnus Bane is the High Warlock of Brooklyn in both The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices.
Will Herondale is a shadowhunter in The Infernal Devices.
Jace Wayland, a ever so arrogant shadowhunter in The Mortal Instruments.
Go on over to VH1 and vote for our beautiful boys. Magnus is in second place, Jace in third and Will in forth. We need them all to be at the top!
I had decided what better way to celebrate Godfrey's birthday and arrival on set then to put a spotlight on that pretty pretty face, and look at all the things that make him more than a pretty face. Life delayed things a little, or as I say, you can only handle so much Godfrey at a time ;) Here is my (delayed) spotlight of the lovely Godfrey Gao.
Some background info:
Born: September 22, 1984 Godfrey is 28 years old.
Ethnicity: Malaysian mother and Tawainese father
Also known as: Gao Yi Xiang
Height: 6'4"
He was born in Taiwan, but his family moved to Canada when he was nine years old.
Career:
As we all know, Godfrey is a relative unknown. He has done some work in TV, mostly in Taiwan. He is also a model. He appeared in All About Women (2008) under the name Godfrey Kao, which was released in Singapore, and is also in the currently filming 101 Proposals, which is a Chinese film.
Let's face it, every one loves Godfrey. He is such a pretty man lol, but I also like to think of him as a trailblazer of sorts for Asian men every where. While to fandom people, fawning over Godfrey has seemed as natural as breathing, some times we miss what a big deal it really is that he's so readily embraced. We've all heard Cassie's thoughts on whitewashing in Hollywood (to which I, even as a white female, am most proud of her insistence). We've also seen his fellow competitors for the role of Magnus speak out on how momentous it is for Asian male to be a leading actor in an American film, and what a big deal it is that he is so well loves and has this "heart throb" status with a younger American female population.
It seems we aren't the first to notice Godfrey. In my Godfrey research I've discovered that this is not the first time someone has considered him In January this year The Huffington Post wrote this article Godfrey Gao: First Asian Supermodel? .
Let me get back on task here...
(Chairman Meow?)
We had so many great actors audition for Magnus. We haven't seen much to form opinions on Godfrey's acting abilities, but I personally think he will be fabulous.
