Barnes & Noble, Inc. today announced that A City of Bones from Cassandra Clares' Mortal Instruments series, will be featured as the latest pick for "Barnes & Noble Spotlight" , a NOOK Book program that features great writers at irresistible prices. Twice a month, Barnes & Noble Spotlight picks an author of a popular or breakout series from various genres and offers one of their titles at a special price, helping NOOK readers discover new authors and dive into an exciting series for a wallet-friendly price. From June 30 through July 13, Barnes & Noble's NOOK Bookstore will offer City of Bones, from the bestselling Mortal Instruments series, for only 99 cents.

When 15-year-old Clary Fray ventures to a local club, she witnesses a murder by a group of strangely tattooed teenagers. As she hurries to call the police, she realizes that the body has disappeared and the murderers seem to be invisible to everyone except her. This is Clary's first encounter with the Shadowhunters, warriors whose missions are to rid the earth of demons. Clary is pulled further into the Shadowhunters world when her mother is kidnapped by a demon. Clary turns to Jace, a cocky yet handsome Shadowhunter, as she seeks to learn why demons would be interested in ordinary humans.

City of Bones is the first of six novels in The Mortal Instruments series. The sixth and last installment entitled City of Heavenly Fire will be released in March 2014. Each book follows Clary Fray's journey into the mysterious world of demon hunters as she seeks to defeat the evils that threaten her life. Cassandra Clare is The New York Times bestselling author of the Mortal Instruments series. The first book in the series, City of Bones, is currently being made into a movie starring Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell-Bower that is set to be released next summer. Cassandra has also written a trilogy of prequels to the Mortal Instruments books entitled the Infernal Devices.

Presently, Cassandra is working with Holly Black, the author of the Spiderwick Chronicles, on a five-book middle-grade saga, which is set to be published over the next several years. Spotlight features titles from different genres including popular romance, young adult, fiction and cookbooks. Customers who "like" NOOK on Facebook and follow NOOK on Twitter will be among the first to hear about the Spotlight picks.
