Darren Criss 'not cool enough' for Magnus?

MTV caught up with Glee stars Darren Criss, Jenna Ushkowitz and Kevin McHale during this year's San Diego Comic Con. They asked Darren's thoughts were on the fancasting of him for the Brooklyn High Warlock, Magnus Bane.

“Oh, I have heard that,” Darren said. “I really thought Harry Shum would be good for that. I mean, that’s cool. It’s a funky part. That’d be really fun, but I don’t think they’d let me do that.”
When pressed as to why he wouldn’t be allowed to portray the beloved character, Darren gave an answer we totally don’t agree with. “I don’t think I’m cool enough for that,” he said.
To their credit, Darren’s co-stars both disagreed, with Kevin offering up an intriguing (though not entirely realistic) solution: “You and Harry can just split the part like twins,” he said. To which Darren looked straight into the camera and delivered this final comment: “Cast me!”
The fans do really love Darren for this role, but obviously he doesn't seem to be in the running. What about Harry Shum? What are your thoughts on this interview? Sound off below in our comments.

  1. after that episode of Glee when Kevin McHale and Harry Shum did Michael and JAnet Jackson's Scream, I could totally see it! I think Harry Shum could play Magnus for sure.

  2. Harry Shum did mention he was reading the Mortal Instruments in May and that's the same time all these names were popping up about people auditioning for Magnus. It's possible he did audition (CC did mention it to the director too)

  3. Really? Did he mention that on Twitter?? That would make sense that he did if he was reading it. That was pretty much a clear indicator that someone had auditioned.

    1. He did. I should have screencapped it. But he must have deleted it for a reason. At best there was a followers who responded to it: https://twitter.com/delaneyc13/status/205498486232322048. Best evidence I can come up with. He doesn't necessarily follow under TMI's typical audience, so I think he read it for the audition.
