EXCLUSIVE: Interview with composer Jack Trammell on 'Mortal Instruments' trailer

There are a few components of a great movie trailer: quick, catchy one-liners, fast paced, stunning imagery and a track that sets the mood so that viewers will be on the edge of their seat waiting to spend their dough for movie tickets.
With the new Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, we have all those aspects and so much more.

With the release of the new trailer and the news from Constantin and Republic records that the official movie soundtrack will drop August 20th, Shadowhunter fans are eager to find out anything they can on the music played in this full theatrical trailer. For that, I go to the source: Jack Trammell, composer/producer of the song "Echelon", one of the two songs featured in the TMI trailer.

"I'm honored to be a part of the project," Trammell said about the TMI trailer. "The studio loved 'Echelon' for the backend of the trailer and had me make it even more exciting for the usage. TMI will surely be a wonderful film. I'm sure 'Echelon', or maybe some of my other music, will be used in promo spots for the film. Fingers crossed."

Trammell has been a musician for about 20 years now. He owns Fat Cat Recording Studio in Sacramento, and does a ton of composing for many projects in LA. "Such a wonderful career. I'm so thankful! There are some more Big Projects I'm working on coming up this Spring/Summer, super secret right now."

Trammell will be finishing his third album in a few months. His first two albums Pillars of Creation and Behemoth are available for listening on his site. Here's the full version of "Echelon", featured on Pillars of Creation, so you can check it out!

Trammell's music has been featured in some top film trailers: Cloud Atlas, Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2, Resident Evil: Retribution, Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, Oblivion, Olympus Has Fallen, GI Joe 3D, Looper, In Time, Underworld: Awakening, Die Hard 25th Anniversary Blu-Ray, and the list goes on and on! It's clear that his musical depth is a great asset to the TMI world.

MUSIC NEWS: Radiohead's 'All I Need'; Jack Trammell's "Echelon" featured in TMI trailer 2

Shadowhunters, you know by now how big of a music fan I am. Needless to say when The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones trailer came out, I just about lost it when I heard Radiohead's song "All I Need" playing in the background. So I fangirled even harder! Not only that, we have a second song I'll get to in just a few:

We just found out yesterday that the TMI soundtrack will be released on August 20th, so the countdown begins! We can only guess what music and artists will be on there, so in the meantime I wanted to share the lyrics with you for "All I Need" (in English and Spanish), so you could get an idea about the complete song.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Radiohead, these guys have been around since 1985, and were heavily played in the indie/grunge college stations with songs like "Creep" and "High and Dry" having some success on the airwaves. A little movie called Clueless picked up their song "Fake Plastic Trees" for the soundtrack, and that's when I became a huge fan gobbling up everything I could find on them.
Since then, this UK band has went on to become one of the most influential of the last 30 years. In 2005, Radiohead were ranked number 73 in Rolling Stone's list of "The Greatest Artists of All Time", while Jonny Greenwood and Ed O'Brien were both included in Rolling Stone's list of greatest guitarists, and Thom Yorke in their list of greatest singers. In 2009, Rolling Stone readers voted the group the second best artist of the 2000s.
Composer Jack Trammel's song "Echelon" is the second track featured in the trailer. Take a listen to the complete song:

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Total Recall (2012), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Underworld: Awakening, In Time, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, and Soul Caliber V, all have one thing in common: Jack Trammell. Jack's unique music, a balance between aggressive, percussive sound design and dark electronic dubstep has quickly launched him into the forefront of the movie trailer world. He's also most recently had music in trailers for Cloud Atlas, Batman: The Dark Night Rises, Olympus Has Fallen, GI Joe: 3D, Looper and The Amazing Spiderman.

A producer by trade, Jack's BEHEMOTH was the perfect creative outlet to meld his unique production skills with sounds he envisioned would be associated with machines, space exploration and warfare in the distant future.

Upon releasing the album through Position Music, he found his blend of music was instantly slotted into major trailers for films and video games. He's now one of the go-to composers for high budget trailers and his music is heard by millions around the world.

Take a look at the official trailer for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones to see how both songs were featured.
