According to the fine folks at The Hollywood Reporter, the best performing Canadian film of 2013 was The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
Even with what industry insiders deemed as sluggish sales, the film grossed over $80 million worldwide, not including profits from the December DVD release. The movie, based on the New York Times best selling book by Cassandra Clare, stars Lily Collins as Clary Fray, a teen who discovers that she descends from a line of warriors (Shadowhunters) who protect the world from demons. The film also stars Jamie Campbell Bower, Robert Sheehan, Kevin Zegers, Jemima West, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and Jared Harris, among others.
The second installment in the franchise, City of Ashes, is tentatively slated to begin in 2014. Not much has been announced for casting in the film. Sigourney Weaver has been cast as the Inquisitor, and it was reported early on that the main cast had signed a three-movie contract. Collins has mentioned in recent interviews that she is ready to get back to her role of the demon-slaying Clary.
As fans of the series, are you ready to hear more casting news and to know more about what happens next in the films? What are your expectations in the continuation of this franchise?
