SHADOWHUNTER WRAP-UP: 'City of Heavenly Fire' snippet, TLH news, and more

There's lots of news in the Shadowhunter fandom and here's a rundown of the latest!

Cassandra Clare shared a very special Valentine with fans: a brand new snippet from City of Heavenly Fire. This snippet features Julian Blackthorn, one of the Los Angeles Institute characters from the highly anticipated series The Dark Artifices.

Take a look:

“Julian,” said Jia, in the same gentle voice, “would you do something for us? Would you take up the Mortal Sword?”
Clary sat up straight. She had held the Mortal Sword: she had felt the weight of it. The cold, like hooks in your skin, dragging the truth out of you. You couldn’t lie holding the Mortal Sword, but the truth, even a truth you wanted to tell, was agony.
“They can’t,” she whispered. “He’s just a kid —“
“He’s the oldest of the kids who escaped the Institute,” Jace said under his breath. “They don’t have a choice.”
Julian nodded, his thin shoulders straight. “I’ll take it.”
Robert Lightwood passed behind the podium then and went to the table. He took up the sword and returned to stand in front of Julian. The contrast between them was almost funny: the big, barrel-chested man and the lanky, wild-haired boy.
Julian reached a hand up and took the sword. As his hand closed around the hilt, he shuddered, a ripple of pain that was quickly forced down. Emma, behind him, started forward, and Clary caught a glimpse of the look on her face — pure fury — before Helen caught at her and pulled her back.
The book is roughly 733 pages, according to Cassie. "There’s no difference between the Walmart edition and any other edition in terms of the story, so you shouldn’t worry about whatever page number they have listed. It’s all the same book."

With all that said, Cassie also revealed that TESSA AND JEM will make an appearance in the book!

Signed copies of COHF at Barnes & Noble

There 2,000 first edition signed copies of City of Heavenly Fire for sale at Barnes & Noble, according to Cassie.
I signed about 2,000 first editions of City of Heavenly Fire for Barnes and Noble (not that the COHF books have been printed yet, but I signed the first pages and they’ll be bound in. So you’ll be able to order them from B&N soon. I’ll put up the link when I have it. Every one will also be stamped with a rune stamp, and some of them — totally randomly — have my sketch of Church in them. That’s sort of a lottery, whether you end up with one of those, though. And you can always get signed books of mine from Books of Wonder.
There will be extras in both the first editions and regular prints, but with a little bit more for fans to rave about! Cassie says:
Well, all the first editions of City of Heavenly Fire have a portrait on the inside of Jace, Simon, Maia, Alec and Isabelle done by Cliff Nielson, who does all my covers. Only the hardcover first editions sold by Simon and Schuster in the US and Canada will have that portrait on the inside cover. All the books will also come with a note from one of the characters in the end that is handwritten and printed, and leads into the Dark Artifices series. That’s every book, not just the first editions. As to how to buy first editions — basically first editions are all the copies in a publisher’s first print run. They last until they sell out. So the earlier you order a book the more likely you are to get one.

Bane Chronicles book set for print in November

Cassie revealed that the first edition of The Bane Chronicles will hit stands in November 2014. Cassie says:
Anticipatory and terrified is exactly how you should be! :) Yep, the Bane Chronicles will be released in print — the current publication date for the print edition of the Bane Chronicles is November 11 of this year.
The newest story in the series, The Course of True Love (and First Dates), comes out this Tuesday.

Name of 'TLH' project to be released

On February 25…
You’ll be finding out what TLH stands for.

Jem and Tessa Shadowhunter Tarot card by Cassandra Jean!

Cassandra Clare has shared yet another Shadowhunter Tarot card on her Tumblr by Cassandra Jean.

WARNING: THE PICTURES BELOW CONTAINS CLOCKWORK PRINCESS SPOILERS!

Okay, I don’t know if I missed it, but I have not seen a Jem and Tessa tarot card. If there is one and you just aren’t showing it to us yet, I AM NOT ABOVE BEGGING. So, pretty please with a Benedict Cumberbatch on top will you showit to us? What if I bring you cookies? — team62forever

Hey Cassie! I was just wondering if there were any Jem and Tessa drawings or with them on a tarot card? I’ve been loving all the Will and Tessa ones but I kind of wanted more of Jessa. Thanks for reading (and answering if you do..) — consulfairchilds

I was saving the Jem and Tessa one because it is VERY SPOILERY. It doesn’t ONLY spoil events in Clockwork Princess, it spoils events in future as yet unwritten books.
Are you really sure you want to look?

By Cassandra Jean of course. Ten of runes: the wedded union rune. (No runes on Tessa, as Tessa’s skin does not bear runes. When she married Will, she wore the runes on a bracelet. On their thirtieth anniversary he had the bracelet redesigned with pearls to commemorate the years.)
As for this scene, I can’t tell you when it takes place. Just that it does. Could be during CoHF, or TDA, or between the two. It could be a written scene, or just something that happens. They are surrounded by daisies here, which symbolize loyal love and patience, and as you can see, Tessa is wearing Will’s bracelet still.
As for all the people who’ve written to ask if Jem and Tessa have kids, or if Tessa decides to be mortal — they could have kids. Jem is mortal. The kids would be mortal. This is a world where becoming mortal if you are not, or immortal if you are not, is nearly impossible and carries a huge price. It makes life not easy, but as Logan Echolls said, they don’t write songs about the ones that come easy. :)

Do you like the new Shadowhunter Tarot?

MUSIC MONDAY #23: The definitive Tessa Gray playlist

It's time to do our final playlist for The Infernal Devices characters. Today we share songs that fans think make up the ultimate Tessa Gray playlist. Tessa has hard choices to make in Clockwork Princess. Choices that will obviously be frustrating, heartbreaking and will most likely put fans into literary counseling for some time.

Tessa is the life blood of the series. She's the driving force that puts both Will and Jem in motion and is the one who might be the only one of the triangle to survive. My first pick is the Natalie Walker cover of the Counting Crows song "Colorblind". I love the song anyway, but with this amazing fanvid, it totally echoes my feelings of love for the series. At the end of this post, you'll see what I mean.

Here's another fanvid with an amazing track by Mumford & Sons:

To say a final farewell, I thought I'd share this Dido track. I can see Tessa standing at a train station in London in 2007, waving fondly at the fanbase saying, "I'm ok. All is well. You will be okay." Take a listen and see if you agree.

Goodbye, Tessa... we adore you....

Theory Tuesday: Final Predictions on Tessa Gray

We have one week to go! Clockwork Princess, the final work in Cassandra Clare's Infernal Devices series will be in our hands, and we'll find out the fate of our steampunk Shadowhunters!

In a way to hash out the theories (reader bewarned if you haven't read the series... we may talk spoilers), I've enlisted the help of some of my favorite bloggers (@TMIShadwhunters, @TMI_colombia, @TMIspanishnews, @shannoncatori, @TMICanada and @ThePaisleyOwl) to discuss our predictions and debate some of your favorite theories.

This week we discuss Tessa Gray:

Amber, TMI Institute: I have a theory about Tessa. My theory is that Ragnor Fell is really Tessa's dad, which would make Tessa a warlock. I also have a side theory that Tessa and Magnus could be related, but now I'm not so sure. I guess I'm still hanging on that typo Cassie made early on which had Tessa listed as Tessa Fell. It would make sense that she would be in mourning in 2007 (see Celine's theory below) because Ragnor dies at the hands of demons in City of Glass.

I'm not entirely sure what will happen with Tessa in terms of Jem and Will. I'd like to say she ends up with one of them, but I just don't think it will happen. We've all heard the theories: Tessa will become an Iron Sister, and Will or Jem will be a Silent Brother. As tragic as I think the book will be, I truly hope one of them to live on so Tessa won't be alone. Obviously, she still is in contact with Magnus, and I'm truly hoping she makes a comeback in City of Heavenly Fire.

Celine, TMI Canada: We know Tessa lives forever given the fact that she appears at the end of City of Glass. I saw on tumblr that someone had asked Cassie that Tessa wearing white was just a coincidence or if she was grieving. Then, Cassie told them that Tessa was grieving. There is the obvious reason to Tessa’s grieving: Jem or Will. However, Clockwork Princess takes place in 1878, and although “Forever does not make loss forgettable, only bearable,” could Tessa be grieving for over 130 years? Or perhaps, she’s grieving over something more recent?

Given the fact that Tessa still lives, hopefully, this means that ‘Team Good’ defeats the clockwork creatures. Can’t wait to see how things will play out!

Sarah, TMI Institute: I think that after all the battles are done Tessa will leave...whether Jem lives or dies.  No matter what Will says.  I am fairly certain that Tessa is immortal (and I am totally with the theory that she is the daughter of Ragnor Fell). She will leave so that those in her life can move on-especially Will.  I would imagine that it would be very difficult to watch those around you age and die all the time.  But I would like to think that he finds some measure of happiness.

Liliana, TMI Colombia: Tessa... she´s immortal and she won´t have a happy ending either, she loves two guys, mortal and parabatai... she will lose them sooner or latter (unless one of them become a silent brother or a daylighter)... she doesn´t have a family and she can´t have kids. She´ll realize what she really is (we don´t know how good it could be... she´s kinf of a weapon on Mortmain hands right?), and we know she will sacrifice hereself to save the shadowhunters... To talk about Tessa´s future is depressing... I know she´ll survive because she appear on CoG... but I really wanted her to be happy :(.

Shannon, TMI Institute: In all honesty I'm really not that concerned with who Tessa ends up with. I'm really only interested in reading about Tessa discovering the secrets about her past that will help her determine who she is. I became intrigued with Tessa from the first time she was introduced to us in City of Glass. I must have read that page a dozen times, searching for clues. I desperately wanted to know who she was, why she was important, but mostly, why her introduction was left to the very end of the story. I cannot wait to uncover the rest of Tessa's story hidden within those crisp new pages a few days from now.

Satin, TMI Institute: For my final predictions for Tessa I had to think long and hard. Tessa still does not know what she is. In my eyes Tessa won't end up with Will nor Jem. We know that she doesn't die because she was in City of Glass. In Clockwork Princess Tessa will find out her true identity. I have no clue if she's a Warlock or not, but she is some kind of Downworlder. I remember a genius theory from someone, I believe it was Sarah or Amber, that Tessa and Magnus could be related in some way. How awesome would that be?! I'd love it. There are so many possibilities for Tessa.

Tita, TMI Spanish News: OMFG I'm so scared that Tessa will end up alone! I only want Jem, Will and Tessa to be happy all together and the rainbows stuff I was talking about the other day XDDD

Well, after reading Cassie's comments about what the jounalists that read the book think, I can tell for sure that I think Tessa will leave them all to protect them... I don't know why I have this impression...

Amber: Who could Tessa be holding hands with in this first CP2 teaser? We'll find out in SEVEN days!
