Jamie Bamber of Battlestar Galactica to Narrate 'The Bane Chronicles: The Last Stand of the New York Institute'!

Cassandra Clare has shared on her tumblr page that Jamie Bamber from the famous television series, "Battlestar Galactica", will be narrating the final short story of The Bane Chronicles. In her post, Cassie also talked about what is she is currently working on and it has to something to do with the final book of The Mortal Instruments book series!
"As the Bane Chronicles draws to a close, I know you’re all worried. Can we really keep up our excellent track record of Hot Guys Reading You Stories? I’m happy to announce that we can.
The actor who will be reading The Last Stand of the New York Institute, the second-last Bane Chronicle, is… Jamie Bamber. You may know him from Battlestar Galactica. (Captain Apollo!) Sarah, who has a creepily encyclopaedic knowledge of Hot British Actors, loves him from the Hornblower TV series in which apparently Jamie Bamber wore a very poofy white shirt, had a lot of feelings and served in His Majesty’s navy. I don’t ask questions.
We are so excited to have Jamie Bamber onboard, and can’t wait to hear his interpretations of Magnus, Luke, Valentine, Jocelyn…and Stephen Herondale.
(I now disappear back into the depths of copyediting, as City of Heavenly Fire is in the very last stages of having its commas moved and its continuity errors corrected …which with a 200,000 word book is no small undertaking. I will emerge I hope in the New Year, and I’ll be posting some art Christmas Day — Cassandra Jean’s December calendar pages for both the boys and girls!)"
Shadowhunters if you have not purchased The Last Stand of the New York Institute when it came out on December 17, we highly recommend you do! Read the synopsis to find out why:
"In the time of the Uprising, Valentine’s Circle goes after Downworlders in New York…and the Shadowhunters of the Institute must decide whether to join him, or fight with Magnus and his kind. This is the first time Magnus sees Jocelyn, Luke, and Stephen—but not the last. It is not long before Jocelyn seeks him out…."

New Bane Chronicles snippet features Elyaas the demon

Cassie Clare took to Tumblr to share a brand new snippet from The Bane Chronicles: What to Buy the Shadowhunter Who has Everything, which features a fun interaction with the blue tentacled demon Elyaas, who made an appearance in The Infernal Devices. Read ahead...

Bane Chronicles snippet
“How have you been keeping? You know, since the last time you summoned me,” said Elyaas, the demon.“What?” Magnus asked.“You don’t remember me?” said the tentacle demon.“I summon a lot of demons,” Magnus said weakly. There was a long pause. Magnus stared into the bottom of his coffee cup and desperately willed more coffee to appear. This was something a lot of mundanes did too, but Magnus had one up on those suckers. His mug did slowly fill again, until it was brimming with rich dark liquid. He sipped and looked at Elyaas, who was shifting uncomfortably from tentacle to tentacle.“Well,” said Elyaas. “This is awkward.”“It’s nothing personal,” said Magnus.“Maybe if I jogged your memory,” Elyaas suggested helpfully. “You summoned me when you were searching for a demon who cursed a Shadowhunter? Bill Herondale?”“Will Herondale,” said Magnus.Elyaas snapped his tentacles as if they were fingers. “I knew it was something like that.”“You know,” Magnus said, enlightened, “I think I do remember. I’m sorry about that. I realized right away that you weren’t the demon I was looking for. You looked kind of blue in one of the drawings, but obviously you are not blue, and I was wasting your time. You were pretty understanding about it.”“Think nothing of it.” Elyaas waved a tentacle. “These things happen. And I can look blue. You know, in the right light.”“Lighting’s important, it’s true,” said Magnus.“So whatever happened with Bill Herondale and that curse a blue demon put on him?” The cecaelia demon’s interest seemed genuine.“Will Herondale,” Magnus said again. “It’s actually rather a long story.”“You know, sometimes we demons pretend we’re cursing people and we don’t really do it,” said Elyaas chattily. “Like, just for kicks? It’s kind of a thing with us. Did you know that?”“You could have mentioned it a century or two ago,” Magnus observed frostily.Elyaas shook his head, smiling a slime-bedecked smile. “The old pretend-to-curse. It’s a classic. Very funny.” He appeared to notice Magnus’s unimpressed expression for the first time. “Not from your perspective, of course.”“It wasn’t funny for Bill Herondale!” said Magnus. “Oh, damn it. Now you’ve got me doing it.”— from What to Buy the Shadowhunter Who Has Everything*We just got news on an awesome audio narrator for this one - I think you guys will be pleased!

Jesse Williams talks narrating 'THE BANE CHRONICLES' audiobook!

Jesse Williams was chosen to narrate the first installments of The Bane Chronicles, What Really Happened in Peru. Hollywood Crush was able to sit down with him and talk about his experience narrating, trying something new and more. He also talks what he loves about our favorite warlock, Magnus Bane.

Check out what he had to say in the video below:

And in addition to praising the great writing in "The Bane Chronicles," Jesse also said that he got a real kick out of the book's main man: Magnus Bane, the cavalier warlock who cameos in every book from Cassanda Clare's Shadowhunter series. (Hint: For the serious actor, it's the character's "devil-may-care attitude" that won him over.) Want to hear all Jesse's thoughts on his first outing in the audiobook world? You know what to do!

Cover Reveal: THE BANE CHRONICLES: What Really Happened in Peru!

We have been waiting to see teh cover of the first installment of The Bane Chronicles for a long time and Entertainment Weekly's Shelf Life has revealed it.

Entertainment Weekly also interviewed Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan and Maureen Johnson.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: First thing’s first: How did you come up with the idea for The Bane Chronicles?

MAUREEN JOHNSON:
We always have jokes about each other’s books, and I have my designs on several of Cassie’s characters. It started over a long series of jokes like about what we would do.
SARAH REES BRENNAN: I came in a little later. Maureen and Cassie were chatting about several different adventures that characters could have had. Then we were all in France together when we started telling Magnus stories to each other.
CASSANDRA CLARE: We’d all rented this house [in France], and it had one really big fancy room that we couldn’t possibly use. We were sort of gingerly sitting in there, and then we started making jokes about Magnus and what he would think of the room. Maureen had one about Magnus during the French Revolution. Sarah had her theories about why Magnus was really banned from Peru, and it sort of expanded. I said, “It’s really a shame that we couldn’t write these as a series of ongoing stories, because it’s not really a novel format. It’s more of a series of interconnected short stories.” That was when we first started talking about it seriously.
W
hy did you decide on 10 installments?

CLARE:
We had the realization that the best home for a project like this was probably the Internet because it allows for extremely non-traditional publishing formats. Then we started to buckle down and talk about what the stories would be and how they would be written. Since there’s three of us and we’re writing each story — Maureen’s writing half, Sarah’s writing half, I’m writing half along — it seemed fair to split them five and five.

Each installment is written by just two of you. How did you decide who would write what?

BRENNAN: When we started talking about it, it became clear what we were most interested in. I’d be like, “Well what about the other Mortal characters? What about Raphael?” What if he and Magnus had a history? And sometimes the stories we planned to write take a dramatic turn. Cassie, Maureen, and I were just on tour together, and a lot of people were asking about the characters in The Infernal Devices. Cassie and I got to talking about it on the bus, and we’re like, “Well, this could be a Bane Chronicle and then we had to break the news to our editor that we had a different Bane Chronicle!
JOHNSON: A lot of it did happen in that room in France, and it did feel like the right setting for this — the place to be doing this crazy project. We talked a lot about time periods because we had so many to choose from. We went in like it was a smorgasbord and said, “We have four or five hundred years of history to play with. What are some awesome settings since we can do anything? Where should we go?”

What can you tease about What Really Happened in Peru?

CLARE:
There’s a dropped mention in one of the [Mortal Instrument] books that Magnus is banned from the entire country of Peru, and he never says why. So this is the story of… I don’t want to spoil Magnus’ banning! But it actually covers a lot of centuries of Magnus’ visits to Peru.
BRENNAN: I do not know an obscene amount about Peruvian history. So I’d be looking at it and find that in one century Peru had this huge piracy problem. Magnus and pirates, obviously! And in another century there were confidence tricksters going all around preying on travelers, so what if Magnus met a confidence trickster? That sort of thing.

It was recently announced that Grey’s Anatomy star Jesse Williams will narrate the audiobook version. How did that come about?

BRENNAN:
Jesse Williams is so amazing, so I feel super lucky to get him…. He’s too handsome! [Laughs]
CLARE: I was like, “Wow, too bad you can’t see him when he talks!” [Laughs] We gave Simon & Schuster a massive list of our favorite actors and people we really liked. We were like, “Well these are people we really like and think would be great.” The different stories have different moods and different styles. [Simon & Schuster] came back to us with a couple different people and one of them was Jesse…. I think it was Sarah’s idea of having a different narrator for each section. We didn’t want to position the narrator as Magnus telling the story. We wanted to position them each as a narrator telling the story about Magnus.

So each installment is going to have a different narrator? Do you know who else might participate?

CLARE: It’s still going to be switched out for each installment is my understanding. And I know people whose names we threw in the basket. I don’t know if they’re going to do it or not.

Who did you suggest?

BRENNAN: Are we allowed to say?
CLARE: I guess we probably could. We can be like, “Hey call me!” We threw in a bunch of different people who we thought would have really great comic timing, like Alan Cumming. For the ones that are set in England, we were interested in having British readers, so we threw in John Barrowman since he has a nice British voice and has also played one of the more better-known bisexual male characters in media. We thought he could have some fun with Magnus and his romantic life.
BRENNAN: I don’t know if we’re going to get them.
CLARE: They’re short stories so it’s kind of nice. We can go out to people with pretty busy schedules and be like, it’s only four hours of your time. It’s not a huge commitment.
JOHNSON: Yeah, just come in for a morning!

Are you excited to read The Bane Chronicles? Remember it will be available in e-book format on April 16th.

EXCLUSIVE: 'BANE CHRONICLES' co-author Sarah Rees Brennan stops by Shadowhunter Saturday

Sarah Rees Brennan
During Shadowhunter Saturday, I was very excited that one of the co-authors for the Bane Chronicles, Sarah Rees Brennan, made a surprise visit to answer some fan questions about the upcoming series.

We were all THRILLED when Sarah took to Cassie Clare's Tumblr to share the news about the upcoming set of short stories about the High Warlock of Brooklyn. With Sarah's own set of books, including the Demon Lexicon trilogy and her newest book Unspoken, we know Sarah has a very busy schedule of her own. The fact that she's teamed up with colleagues Cassie and Maureen Johnson to bring us the Bane Chronicles is stellar.

Starting in February and leading up to a final book in 2014, there is a lot of history to be detailed about Magnus. Here's what Sarah shared with us on Twitter today.

Okay, here's where my computer started acting funny, and my screen caps are working right so here's the other tweets!  It's in backwards order, so this next one is my ABSOLUTE FAVE! I asked if we could see Will, Jem and Tessa in the book:

One must always be prepared for Herondales. ;)

On asking Maureen the vamp vs Maureen the author:

They're basically the same. ;)

On the info regarding what parts of Magnus' life will be featured in the book:

The different stories will be about different points in his life, yes--Peru, Alec, Camille, France, NYC in different decades...

Sarah spills some MAGNUS ROMANCE DETAILS:

Magnus has had many romaaaances over the centuries... came up with a very EXCITING one.

There will be Malec:

I think lots of people love his relationship with Alec... & Alec features lots. ;)

We will learn all about Magnus and his relationship with Camille:

Camille will feature. ;) RT The story about Magnus and Camille. The WHOLE story ;D” oh yes!!

While being hilarious & hot are great, I'd like to be as kind as Magnus secretly is. He helps everyone!

And finally, I do love what Sarah calls the fans!! :)

THE BANE CHRONICLES starting in February!!

image

Remember when Cassie, Sarah and Maureen had a big announcement for us? We thought we were going to have it last week, but we had to wait another whole week. Well here it is guys! THE BANE CHRONICLES!! Yes you read correctly, THE BANE CHRONICLES! As we all know, The High Warlock, Magnus Bane, is in both The Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instruments. Cassandra Clare is teaming up with Sarah Rees Brennan and Maureen Johnson to bring it to us.

"We bring to you THE BANE CHRONICLES, chronicling (you see what we did there) Magnus’s adventures through the ages.

Have you ever wondered about Magnus’s past loves and lies? Magnus and Alec’s first date? How Magnus and Camille got together? What happened in Peru? Starting in February 2013, in the run-up to City of Handsome Magnus: the Movie (Also Starring Some Other People Who Are Pretty Good-Looking) we will put out a Magnus Short Story every month.

There will be ten of Magnus’s magnificent adventures all in all. Some of them Cassie and I are writing, some of them Cassie and Maureen are writing, some Cassie is writing herself as we cruelly abandon her! All of them, we think, are lots of fun."

Starting in February, one story will be released every month in e-book format up until the release of THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES on August 23, 2013. In 2014, the stories will go to print in a single book.

Check out the post that from Sarah on Tumblr here and the article from Entertainment Weekly here.

I don't know about you guys, but we are very excited about THE BANE CHRONICLES! What do you guys think?
