Did you love Lily Collins' look from the British Fashion Awards? Well thanks to Who What Wear you can have it.
"In middle school, goth meant black lipstick from Wet 'n Wild and an oversized Marilyn Manson t-shirt. Lily Collins, however, gave the moody genre a glam twist at the British Fashion Awards this week. The actress' beauty team balanced her oxblood lips with glowing skin and grungy '90s hair. Turns out that little tricks—like skipping blush and blow-drying hair on a low setting—are the keys to looking this cool. If only we'd known that in sixth grade."
Skin
"Makeup today is all about plumped, glowing skin," says makeup artist Mary Greenwell, so she prepped Collins' face with Chanel's Hydramax + Active Nutrition Cream ($80) and used her fingers to smooth on Laura Mercier's Oil-Free Supreme Foundation ($42) in Porcelain Ivory. She swept Dior's Skinflash Radiance Booster Pen ($37) under the actress' eyes and used Tom Ford's Shade and Illuminate ($75) instead of blush. "Apply the highlighter on the brow bone and the temples, and lightly contour under the cheekbones," she says. "There is only one area where shine is unacceptable—under the eyes." So she dusted on Dior's Diorskin Forever Pressed Powder ($42) in Light 001.
Eyes
Greenwell began by applying Armani's Eyes to Kill Intense Waterproof Eyeshadow ($32) in Rose Titanium on Collins' eyelids. For a deep gray outline she used Estee Lauder's Pure Color Eyeshadow ($20) in Black Crystals—"black will blend into a gray color, but stay dark"—and pressed the shadow into the lash line, winging it up and out. Greenwell loaded Collins' lashes with Tom Ford's Extreme Mascara ($42), but didn't do much to her already perfect brows: "I used the darkest shade in Chanel's Perfect Brows ($65) in Brun to extend them out, but not fill them in."
Lips
Greenwell lined Collins' lips with Laura Mercier's Lip Pencil ($20) in Red Chocolate before applying Tom Ford's Lip Color ($48) in Black Orchid directly from the tube.
Hair
Hairstylist Lisa Eastwood wanted to create "grunge-inspired '90s hair," so she layered Shu Uemura's Liquid Fabric ($38) andTasai Cream ($38) into Collins' damp hair. "The trick is in how you blow-dry," Eastwood says. "Use high heat on a low speed and dry with your fingers for a raggy look." Eastwood then created a side part, tucked the hair behind one ear, and set with a heavy amount of L'Oreal's Elnett Hairspray ($13). "It's a carefree look, so it's important not to over-style the hair," she says. And there you have it! Everything you need to score the fancy goth look—moody attitude not included.
